Preface

　　With the theme of getting a global outlook, creating a better future, and promoting the sustainable development of Chinese automotive industry, the first session of International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, with the annual theme of the 11th Five-Year-Plan of Chinese Automotive Industry, was held in Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area in September 2005. 2005 is the first year during the national 12th Five-Year-Plan period, all the discussions at the forum focused on the topics about the development direction and key development areas during this period. A lot of government officials, executives with manufacturers, industry experts, and well-known journalists attended this event. They all affirmed and recognized the role of the forum in promoting the communications of the players in the automotive industry.

　　China’s economy has been increasing at a rapid pace, and the market is also opening wider and wider. The consumption structure has been upgraded and many incentive policies have been introduced to promote the development of automotive industry. In this case, the structure adjustment of Chinese automotive industry is necessary and urgent. With the annual theme of Structural Change and International Strategies of Chinese Automotive Industry, the second session of International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development was held in 2006. A few of sub meetings were concurrently held, including the themes concerning independent innovation, intellectual property, international investment, trade and procurement, research and development, export, and marketing etc.. And a large-scale event-Tianjin International Auto Parts & Components Exhibition was also held concurrently.

　　In response to the government’s call of building a resource-saving and environmentally-friendly society, the third session of International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, with the annual theme of “Environmental Protection, Energy Efficiency, and Green Manufacturing” ,was held in 2007.
　　All relevant topics, such as the policy and macro-environment, energy-saving and environmental protection, new energy vehicles, and environment protection measures in USA, Japan, and European countries, were discussed at the meetings.

　　After 30 years of reform and opening up to the outside world, China’s automotive industry has achieved significant progress. To be a powerhouse of automobiles has been a hotspot. With the annual theme of 30 Years of Reform and Opening-up, Evolution from a Major Auto Country to a Powerhouse of Automobiles, the fourth session of International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry was held in Tianjin. And the activities to commemorate the 30 years of reform and opening up to the outside world of Chinese automotive industry were also held concurrently.

　　The extending of global financial crisis has great negative impact on the world automotive industry. It also brings opportunities to the development of automotive industry. With the annual theme of Financial Crisis and Readjustment & Revitalization of Chinese Automotive Industry, the fifth International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development focused on the discussions on topics on recovery under the crisis, such as the readjustment under the crisis, revitalization under the crisis, and new structure after the crisis. A lot of sub activities were held at this forum, like roundtable meeting and interactive discussion etc.. Thee strategic and prospective topics stabilized the forum’s position as the Auto Davos and Vane of the Development of Automotive Industry.

　　With the further recovery of national economy, the negative influence of the global crisis on the automotive industry has become less and less effective. During the post-crisis period, the transition and upgrading of automotive industry are necessary for the sustainable development of automotive industry. With the annual theme of Transformation and Upgrading of Chinese Automotive Industry, the 6th International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development focused on the discussions on the effective ways to accelerate the transition and upgrading of automotive industry.

　　With the increase of auto population, the conflict between automotive industry and social capacity has become more and more serious. The harmonized development between the automotive industry and the whole society has have gained wide attention. It is also one of the strategic tasks of the players in automotive industry. With the annual theme of Auto Society and Future of the Industry, the 7th International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development focused on the discussions on the ways to achieve harmonized development of auto industry and the society. And the International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development was changed as International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development in 2011, aiming to reflect its geographic characteristics. The brainstorm meeting was introduced at the forum to strengthen the interactive discussions.

　　China has achieved remarkable economic growth. But there are still many contradictions and problems in the development of China’s economy. The acceleration the transition of economic development mode to improve risk resistance capabilities and ensuring the sustainable development are urgent. The 8th International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, with the annual theme of Economic Transition and Changes of Automotive Industry was held in 2012. The topics about the change of automotive industry under transition of economy were discussed at the forum.

　　2013 is the 60th anniversary of Chinese automotive industry. Chinese automotive industry has made considerable progress in the past 60 years. Building a powerhouse of automobiles to make contribution to the national economy and promote the harmonized development of the society is a heavy task to the players in Chinese automotive industry. The 9th International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, with the annual theme of Responsibility and Future, focused on discussing the topics concerning the responsibilities of automotive industry and auto manufacturers, the air pollution and industry opportunities, and auto safety etc.．
